Dal  

In a large saucepan, saute 
  • 2 cloves garlic (crushed/chopped)
  • 1 medium onion (diced)
Add the following and cook over medium heat till mixture begins to brown. (Or replace with 2 tablespoons curry powder)
  • 1 tsp turmeric 
  • 1 tbsp ground ginger 
  • 1 tbsp Aromatic mix 
  • 1 tsp paprika or chilli paste to taste
  • salt, to taste, 
Add and stir for a minute or so 
  • 1 cup small red lentils
Add, bring to boil, then simmer for 20minutes
  • 3 cups water  
  • 2-3 bay leaves, to taste
  • 1 cinnamon stick 
Add and cook for another 10 minutes until lentils are soft and the consistency just liquid enough to pour
  • 1 tin tomatoes, or the equivalent fresh and chopped 
  • 1/4 cup cashew cream
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
